About  Me

Welcome to my website! Hello my Name is Kozma Hoskins McLean, and I am here to assist you! K. H. McLean, Counseling Services PLLC, is owned & operated by Kozma Marie Hoskins McLean, MS, LCMHCS, LPC, MAC, CCTP. Specializing in Child, Adolescent & Family Services. I am a professionally trained fully Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor , (LCMHCS) in North Carolina, Licensed Professional Counselor, (LPC), in South Carolina and Virginia. Certified Master Addictions Counselor & Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.  Over the last 13-years I have worked as a  Continuing Education Instructor, Social Worker/Bereavement Therapist for Hospice, Contract Outpatient Therapist and a School Based Therapist.

My counseling experiences consist of working with a diverse population, at-risk youth, adults, elderly, families/couples, sexual assault, (victims of trauma), domestic violence victims, depression, PTSD, anxiety, gender issues, Bipolar, substance abuse, death and dying issues, work related issues, and children behavioral health issues (i.e.,  Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD).

Counseling is the process by which we mutually work together to identify and work on any issues you may bring into your sessions. My primary focus as a counselor is to assist (you) my clients with identifying their strengths, developing self-awareness, and accepting accountability. My counseling approach is eclectic, within our counseling sessions I utilize ” Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” developed by Aaron Beck and “Solution Focused Brief Therapy “developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is about learning how our thoughts create our emotional realms.

By implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we discover that we all have tendencies to possess adverse thoughts that introduce unhappiness, disorganization, and a feeling of emptiness. The key goal is accepting accountability of our personal issues realizing that as an individual we are going to have some negative thoughts, disappointments in life, and experience natural disasters , however,  it is how we learn to handle situations/crisis when they arise; by shifting negative thoughts into positive thoughts. SFBT is focused on the future, goal-directed, and focuses on solutions, rather than on the specific issues that an individual may bring to the therapy sessions.
